Sand Rivers Selous

Sand Rivers is located in the northern section of the Selous Game Reserve, the world’s second-largest protected wilderness area. This lodge offers luxurious safari accommodations along the scenic Rufiji River. With an outdoor pool, an open-air dining room, a bar, and a lounge, all beautifully situated on a sweeping curve of the river, guests are treated to breathtaking views.

The lodge features 8 stone and thatched cottages, each open-fronted and elevated on decks with river views. There are 5 Riverside Rooms equipped with en-suite bathrooms, hot and cold running water, flush toilets, and powerful showers. Additionally, there are 3 Hillside Suites, offering the same amenities plus a spacious living area and a private plunge pool.

Activities at Sand Rivers are customized to each guest’s preferences, including game drives, walking safaris, fishing, and boating. The lodge can also arrange for fly camping under mosquito nets on dry riverbeds within the reserve, though it’s recommended to book this experience in advance.

Activities

Our region of Nyerere offers excellent opportunities for game viewing by vehicle, on foot, and by boat. We enjoy picnics, fishing, trips to the hot springs, and fly camping. The area is peaceful, with few other camps, making it perfect for a full immersion in the bush.

Fly-Camping

Fly-camping is a highly recommended addition to any safari at Sand Rivers, Nyerere, available for an extra supplement. The shared fly camps feature spacious mosquito net tents for sleeping. A bucket shower with hot water and short-stop toilets are set up behind camp. A full complement of staff provides a complete breakfast, a light lunch, and a three-course candlelit dinner.
