Mpala Jena

Mpala Jena
Mpala Jena is a boutique safari camp situated along the scenic, tree-lined banks of the Zambezi River, epitomizing ‘barefoot luxury’ with its whimsical thatched roofs, soft sand floors, and a beach bar overlooking the pool and river. The camp’s cool, calming colour palette and natural textures create an atmosphere perfect for relaxed, in-the-moment living. The tented guest suites, nestled under the shade of large Sausage and Jackal berry trees, are generously appointed with private decks and outdoor baths and showers.
Located within the 56,000-hectare Zambezi National Park, Mpala Jena offers access to an increasing number of wildlife species, observable on safari drives, boat cruises, walking trails, or even from the comfort of camp swing chairs with a cocktail in hand. Higher concentrations of buffalo and elephant are common from June to October, and the park boasts the highest density of lions per km² in Zimbabwe. Birdwatching is spectacular year-round, with peak diversity from November to October. Catch-and-release fishing, particularly Tiger fishing, peaks between June and December.
Mpala Jena was designed with a strong commitment to sustainability, running entirely on solar power and batteries. Building materials and design elements were chosen to minimize embodied energy and transportation miles.
Conveniently located 19 kilometres inside the Zambezi National Park, Mpala Jena provides easy access to Victoria Falls town via a 40-minute boat or road transfer. The camp also offers guided tours of the Victoria Falls, enhancing the overall experience for guests.
Mpala Jena offers professionally guided wildlife viewing in open safari vehicles, guided walks, and both morning and afternoon boat cruises (seasonally dependent on water levels). Guests can choose between a motorized boat or a traditional dhow. The camp also offers catch-and-release fishing. Custom-built Land Cruisers, fully stocked with reference books, drinks, and snacks, are used for safaris.
During their stay, guests are encouraged to visit Victoria Falls town and experience the thunderous Victoria Falls. A half-day guided tour of the falls is included for those staying two or more nights.
For an additional cost, guests can enjoy a variety of adrenaline-pumping and relaxing activities that the area is known for. This includes navigating some of the world’s most intense white-water rafting, participating in high-wire activities at the Gorge/Lookout Cafe, taking cultural village tours, joining a historical guided high tea tour, or simply exploring the vibrant streets of this bustling tourist hub.
